How to Care for Collectible Figures So They Hold Their Value
📅 3 July 2026 · Take It.Collectible figures like designer vinyl toys, action figures, and statues have a value that hangs almost entirely on physical condition. Look after them badly and the resale price drops sharply.
The main enemies of a collection
- Direct sunlight: fades and yellows paintwork within months, especially on light-coloured figures.
- High humidity: brings mould to cardboard packaging and corrosion to metal parts and accessories.
- Dust build-up: leave it long enough and you cannot clean it off without risking the paint.
How to store them properly
Keep them somewhere cool and dry, away from windows in direct sun. Where you can, use an enclosed display case for figures on show, and store original boxes separately with a little extra protection (a thin layer of bubble wrap) if they are going into a carton.
For sealed figures (MIB)
Do not stack sealed boxes too high — sustained pressure dents them. Leave a gap between boxes and make sure whatever they sit on is flat.
Why this matters at resale
Buyers of collectible figures are famously particular about box condition ("box damage" can take a serious bite out of the price). Caring for a figure properly from day one is an investment you feel the moment you decide to sell it on.
